President's Updates

As I’m sure you have heard from news reports, Washington Middle School suffered an incredibly tragic loss yesterday when a 12-year-old student was fatally struck by a car while walking to recess.

As a Jesuit Catholic university, Seattle University’s mission calls us to provide the highest quality education to everyone, particularly those who have historically been, and continue to be, excluded from educational opportunity.

Yesterday, a Presidential Executive Order was signed requiring the Department of Defense to create policies prohibiting openly transgender individuals from enlisting or serving in the military.

Today, I am writing to share updated guidance the university is issuing to faculty and staff in support of our students who are non-citizens.

Seattle University is closed today in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. In doing so, we join with others across the nation in commemorating with gratitude the life and legacy of Dr. King while taking up the challenge to complete the work he began.

As we watch the devastating scenes coming out of Southern California, our thoughts are with all who are impacted by the wildfires, particularly those members of the Seattle University family who reside in or have ties to the region.
